Northern Greens was established in 2008 in Denmark with the aim of creating a direct sales circuit for organically and conventionally grown fruits and vegetables from Danish soil. Since then, the company has experienced remarkable growth. It is present in Copenhagen and Velje in Denmark, has its manufacturing workshops in Horsens (also in Denmark), and has offices in Spain. Northern Greens exports to more than 30 countries in Europe and the rest of the world.
The idea of transforming herbs into a concentrated liquid form is more recent, dating back only to 2017. It emerged from the desire to create an urban garden that generated a lot of waste due to the difficulty of preserving aromatic herbs. This led to the idea of preserving herbs in liquid form.
The aromatic herbs—all organic—are mixed with sea salt and organic vinegar. This simple recipe naturally preserves their flavors and allows these organic herbs to be kept for a minimum of two years in easy-to-use packaging. Once opened, Northern Greens herbs do not even need to be refrigerated.
Northern Greens has developed a range of 11 liquid herb extracts. These include oregano, thyme, tarragon, chili (mild and hot), garlic, wild garlic, rosemary, ginger, basil, and dill. The formats vary: individual 40 ml glass bottles, gift sets, 240 ml bottles specifically intended for the catering industry, and 10-liter containers for institutions, for example.
Northern Greens also has other areas of activity:
- Fresh Vegetable Suppliers: Offering about fifty products, ranging from tomatoes to pumpkins, Brussels sprouts to watermelon. Additionally, Northern Greens offers “vegetable snacks,” healthy vegetable bags primarily aimed at children under the brand “I love green” or in individual packs.
- Date-Based Snacks: Northern Greens has created four date-based snacks. These are sold plain, flavored with coconut, Belgian chocolate, and peanut and chocolate. They are natural, gluten-free, and sugar-free snacks, filled with fiber, vitamins, and minerals—ideal for small appetites.
Northern Greens has had a true sustainable strategy since its inception. In its 2023 environmental report, the company’s CEO, Jørgen Nielsen, explains the need to protect, restore, and support the use of terrestrial ecosystems, promote sustainable forestry, combat desertification, and halt land degradation. “When we act responsibly and respect our environment, we create a more economically sustainable company that creates value, including in the long term,” he explains.
Northern Greens can be contacted through its website by any network or individual grocery store wishing to learn more about the liquid aromatic herbs from this small Danish company.
